The Curriculum Office for the Barberton City Schools is continually striving to meet the demands of the ever-changing state and federal requirements for public education. The Curriculum Office is committed to the development of a curriculum that meets and/or exceeds the requirements for our students/staff/parents and community. We strive to provide each student with the necessary tools for a sound education, provide teachers and administrators with current research information and staff development opportunities, and provide parents with up-to-date information on a variety of educational subject areas.
State Content Standards
The State Board of Education has developed Academic Content Standards for Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies for Kindergarten through Grade 12. The State Board of Education will use these standards as the basis for the development of achievement and/or diagnostic assessments for all grades. These standards will be an integral component of an aligned system that will ensure no child is left behind.
To view these standards go to: Ohio Department of Education - Academic Content Standards
State Assessment (Achievement Tests)
What can parents, students, and teachers do to prepare for state-wide testing? Visit: http://portal.success-ode-state-oh-us.info/ for information about all of the Ohio Schievement Tests and the Ohio Graduation Test.

Title I
Many buildings in our district receive Federal Title 1 dollars. This money is used for a variety of reasons. Our district is held accountable for the proper use and spending of these dollars. Please know that if your student is attending a building that is supported by Title 1 financial aide, you may at any time request information regarding the professional qualifications of your student's classroom teacher(s). You must contact your building principal if this is information you wish to review. Please know that there are many resources available to help you work with your children at home on the challenges that standards-based education brings to us all. One such resource is the Ohio Parent Information and Resource Center (PIRC). The Ohio PIRC is a non-profit parent information and resource center operated by the Columbus Urban League in partnership with the Columbus Public Schools and funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Innovation and Improvement. The Ohio PIRC provides parents, families, students, educators and communities with information, resources, and training as mandated by the No Child Left Behind Act. Ohio PIRC also provides statewide services to schools and organizations through training, information and referrals, educational/social service consultation, support for family involvement, technical assistance, workshops and presentations. You can contact the PIRC by calling 1-866-253-1829, or by visiting their website at www.ohiopirc.com.
Home Schooling
The Barberton Board of Education recognizes and appreciates an individual’s right of choice. In particular, the Board recognizes the right of parent/guardians to select education options other than attendance as students enrolled in the Barberton City Schools. In the case of Home Schooling, this option is subject to certain requirements and limitations. An information flyer and Home Education Notification Form can be picked up in the Curriculum Office at the Administration Building.
