A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL:
More than half way through this school year, our students and staff continue to focus on our academic and behavioral goals in each classroom. Once again this year our students are aiming their academic efforts at reading workshop. Each day, week, and month students are recording the number of pages they read. Our school-wide goal will again be 1,000,000 pages before June 1, 2006. Last school year we were able to top this goal by more than 300,000 pages. Students at Santrock demonstrate a commitment to their goals. As a result of this commitment to learning each and every day, Santrock Elementary has accomplished an “Effective” rating from the Ohio Dept. of Education. It is our intention to continue to help each and every student achieve their learning potential in all areas. Be sure to check our Honor Roll list for the Second Grading Period shown below. Communication is the key to our success. Teachers, students, and parents make up the triangle necessary for student success. To help foster the communication process, each teacher’s voice mail extension is listed below. To use email, simply use the teacher’s first initial, last

DONUTS FOR DADS AND MUFFINS FOR MOMS
Each year it is our pleasure to invite dads and moms to a special morning with their child(ren). In February, we hosted Donuts for Dads and had over 275 parents and children starting the school day together with a donut and milk. On Friday, May 12th, we will host Muffins for Moms, inviting all moms to join their children for a special morning together. Thank you for your participation in our school and your children’s education.
PTA WINTER CARNIVAL
Many thanks to the Santrock PTA for planning and hosting a hugely successful Winter Carnival for our students and families. Special thanks and recognition go out to Mrs. Treasure Kriston who was solely responsible for the raffle and event details. The PTA profit of over $1600 was donated to the new playground project. Upcoming PTA events include a Family Dance on St. Patrick’s Day to support the Esther Ryan Shoe Fund, a spring fund raiser, and a skating party at the Rollercade. We also continue to sponsor Market Day sales each month. Please feel free to call the school for any further information regarding any of these projects.
THE NEW PLAYGROUND AT SANTROCK!!
We are VERY excited about our new playground being installed during the month of March!! Many thanks go out to the Barberton Community Foundation for granting matching funds to the Santrock PTA for this project. Through fund raising efforts over the past four years, $15,500 has been raised and now matched by the Foundation for this exciting project. We would also like to thank Meyer Design of Akron for their help in planning this project and for expediting the process for our students. Look for this new addition to our school this spring!!
