"School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that
advances the well being, academic success, and life-long achievement of
students. To that end, school nurses facilitate positive student
responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene
with actual and potential health problems; provide case management
services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and
family capacity for adaptation, self management, self advocacy, and
learning." This definition was adopted at the NASN Board of Directors
meeting in Providence,Rhode Island in June 1999

donations. Cards are given to financially eligible students to go to
Payless Shoes for tennis shoes.
Notes from Nurse Eaton:
Many times parents and staff have questions about children whose eyes
are red and/or irritated. The following information should be helpful.
Children with "pink eye" can get germs on their hands by rubbing their
eyes. Then, they leave the germs on the objects they touch and other
children can pick up the germs and transfer them to their eyes. We may
send a younger child home immediately because they touch many items
that are used by everyone in the room. An older child, who does not
share common items with others and has better control over what they
touch, may be allowed to stay in school, if they are comfortable. Any
student who keeps rubbing their eyes will be sent home, unless we have
confirmation that the conjunctivitis is allergic.
